Sailing from Greece aboard the Belem, an old French three-masted sailing ship, the Olympic Flame will arrive in Marseille on 8 May 2024, marking the start of the festivities!
For its 2nd leg in France, on 10 May, the Olympic Flame will be passing through the Var, highlighting our region throughout the day.
It will start its journey in the department at Saint-Raphaël, then head for Hyères, Brignoles, La Seyne-sur-Mer, before arriving at Les Salles-sur-Verdon, highlighting the Sainte-Croix lake, the third largest lake in France.
The Flame will then set off again for Toulon, the last city to be visited on this colourful day.
The Olympic Flame will set off from Les Salles-sur-Verdon at 4:40 p.m. from the commemorative stele at the Ancienne Commune, opposite the water sports centre, arriving at 5:10 p.m. at the Sainte-Anne place. Distance covered: 1.3km.
On the programme for the day: The water sports centre at Les Salles-sur-Verdon will be hosting introductory courses in water sports: sailing, catamaran, paddle... In the village, a host of associations from the Lacs et Gorges du Verdon Community of Communes will be offering a wide range of events and activities in the sports facilities: tennis, volleyball, dance, rugby... From 6.30pm, a concert will bring the day to a close.
The Sud - Provence-Alpes-Côte-d'Azur region has chosen the Sainte-Croix lake as an iconic site, a testament to the natural wealth of our region. A great festive moment for young and old: come one, come all!
