In 1860, the municipality decided to purchase a spring near Vérignon, the Gypières spring, in the Aups commune 11 km away, and to build a fountain in the village.

Since its construction in 1878, it has been fed by overflow from the fountain. At the time, the water was used not only for washing clothes, but also to supply the gardens below via a system of canals.
