LA MARTRE

Lecture on the total solar eclipse of August 12, 2026; solar observation; potluck picnic; stargazing with our telescopes on site

Come hear Jean-Marc Lecleire’s talk on the total solar eclipse that will occur this summer. Get ready for something incredible!
Meet at Espace Fontvieille at 6:00 p.m. The lecture will be followed by solar observation through a telescope (weather permitting), then a friendly picnic.
Moon observation through a telescope will be offered from 9:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

During this presentation, Jean-Marc will explain the mechanics of solar eclipses: how they occur, what we’ll be able to see, and most importantly, how to observe them safely. You’ll also learn the best places to view it, whether in France or Spain if you decide to make the trip to witness totality.

Note:
On August 12, 2026, a total solar eclipse will take place, which will be just as impressive as the one in 1999, which some of you may still remember. It will be 96% total from the Var region and total in Spain. In France, the darkening will be very significant, and you will need to wear protective glasses to view the event with the naked eye.
