Napoleon Route

LA MARTRE

Let yourself be guided along the legendary Napoleon Route to discover 45 communes, 2 regions, 4 departments and a ribbon of history stamped with the imperial eagle.

The most beautiful road in France in terms of route, the most daring in terms of layout, such is the Napoleon Route from Golfe Juan to Grenoble via Logis du Pin in La Martre and Châteauvieux. It follows the route taken in March 1815 by the Emperor, who left Elba to return to the capital and regain power.

In December 1913, Abbé Jules Chaperon, a key figure in the history of Martroise, persuaded the members of the Artuby and Jabron Upper Valleys tourist office to adopt a motion asking the public authorities to award the great Alpine road the exceptional title of "Napoleon Route."

The Logis du Pin inn is where Napoleon stopped early in the morning on March 3, 1815, to enjoy a hot soup, accompanied by the imperial generals Cambronne and Bertrand. In the village of La Martre, you can also admire the bust of Napoleon, erected by Abbé Jules Chaperon to commemorate his visit.
